Important: Important notices and extra assignment are at the end of this e-mail.

Did you have fun with  the last lesson?  Well, this one is even more interesting.
You now know how to represent the length of sounds using whole notes, half notes and quarter notes. But, how do we
write these sounds on paper?

Music is written using sets of 5 parallel lines with 4 spaces - of course. Sounds are written on lines and in spaces. Here are
five parallel lines and their four spaces.

Start counting the lines and spaces from the bottom up.

lines                                                                                spaces

Each line has a letter name, and each space also has a letter names. There are two staves. There is a
bass staff and a treble staff. Today we will study the treble staff or clef. It is also called the G clef.

Here is a treble clef sign                                                   Here is another  on a staff.

.Write the treble clef sign on a set of five parallel lines and it becomes the treble staff.

Here are are the names of the lines and spaces on the treble staff written on a piece of paper. Notice
that the letter names of musical notes are always written using uppercase letters.

Look at the whole note on the staff below. It is written in the A space. What number space is it?

We say it is “A”  written as a whole note on the treble staff. So, the descriptive name is a whole note and the
letter name is A.  Notice that when you write a space note, the note fills the space and is snuggled between
two lines.

Here is B as a whole note on the treble staff.  Notice that when you write a line note the line goes through the
middle of the note
